Under the hood were talkin up to an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 laptop GPU. Yeah you heard that right RTX 5090 in a laptop.
This bad boy can handle anything you throw at it from the latest AAA titles to crushin esports.
You can deck it out with up to 32 gigs of DDR5 5600 RAM and a 2 TB SSD for all your games and files. And get this if 32 aint enough for your grind you can pop in up to 64 gigs yourself.
Talk about future proofin On the side you get all the hook ups you need HDMI 2.1 USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports and even two Thunderbolt 5 ports that support DisplayPort power delivery and GSync.
And for the wired heads theres Ethernet too. Plus its got the latest WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 for when you wanna go wireless.
The design? Oh man this thing is an RGB lovers dream. Its got that full surround RGB light bar on the bottom first time theyve done that and it looks hella cool like its floatin.
Plus perkey RGB on the keyboard and an RGB ROG logo on the back. You can customize all that in Armory Crate with Aura Creator.
But wait theres more They brought the Anime Vision display over from the Zephyrus and it looks right at home on the Strix. You can put all sorts of custom animations and GIFs on that.
This laptop screams gamer no doubt.
Now check this crazy feature toolless upgrade access. No screws no nothin. Just slide a latch and the bottom panel pops right off. Its easier than changin batteries in a toy.
Inside your RAM and SSD are right there easy to get to. Even the SSD uses a toolless M.2 Qlatch. Swappin parts has never been this chill.

The ROG Strix G16 Still Bringin the Heat
Alright so the SCAR is the ultimate but the ROG Strix G16 is no slouch either. Its like the SCARs slightly more chill sibling but still packs a serious punch.(republic of gamers laptops)
You get the same new chassis design and that awesome toolless upgrade system. It also rocks the full surround RGB light bar.
The main differences? The G16 doesnt have the Anime Vision on the back. The RGB on the logo depends on the model the gray one is just a gray logo.
And while some G16 models have perkey RGB others have fourzone lighting.
The display on the G16 is the standard Nebula display not the miniLED HDR of the SCAR. But its still a dope screen with high resolution and a 240 Hz refresh rate.
You still get 100% DCIP3 color coverage for those vibrant visuals.
Plus both the SCAR and G16 have that new ambient contrast ratio filter that cuts down glare and makes the picture pop even more.
Its a subtle but noticeable upgrade for better viewing.
Under the hood the Intelbased G16 can also go up to the Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor.
For graphics it tops out at an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080 so youre still gettin killer performance.
The G series tends to have a wider variety of configurations at different price points including lowertier GPUs when Nvidia releases them.
So if you dont need the absolute maxedout specs of the SCAR the G16 is a solid choice.
One cool thing specific to the Volt Green G16 is an infinity mirror effect on the ROG logo. The RGB is around the edges and it creates this deep trippy look. Its a real headturner.

SCAR vs. G16 Whats the Haps?
Lets break down the main differences real quick(republic of gamers laptops)
- GPU Power SCAR goes up to RTX 5090 G16 maxes out at RTX 5080 (for now).
- Display SCAR has the Nebula HDR (miniLED) with 2000+ dimming zones and 1200 nits peak brightness G16 has the standard Nebula display.
- Anime Vision SCAR has it G16 does not.
- Logo RGB SCAR has an RGB logo some G16 models (like the gray one) have a nonRGB logo. The Volt Green G16 has an infinity mirror RGB effect.
- Keyboard RGB SCAR has perkey RGB some G16 models have fourzone RGB.
Both share the new chassis toolless upgrades full surround RGB light bar and the ambient contrast ratio filter on the display.
Fresh Design and Killer Features for Both
The 2025 Strix lineup boasts a completely new chassis design thats more sleek than ever.(republic of gamers laptops)
They still kept that Strix vibe though. The full surround RGB light bar on the bottom is a gamechanger.
You also get perkey RGB on the Scar and options for it on the G16. Remember that number pad on the touchpad if you need it.
Just hit that Num Lock icon. The 18inch versions of both have a full numpad on the keyboard.
Cooling is key and these new designs intake air from the bottom a bit from the sides (underneath the ports) and even through the keyboard.
They exhaust all that hot air out the back. This new sandwiched heat sink design with a vapor chamber helps keep things cool even when youre pushin those frames.
They even reduced the gap between the lid and the back makin it look super clean. The Gwing hinge design also contributes to that seamless look when you open it up.
Dope Displays MiniLED vs. Nebula
The Nebula HDR display on the SCAR with its miniLED panel is somethin else.(republic of gamers laptops)
Were talkin over 2000 individual dimming zones for incredible black levels and up to 1200 nits of peak brightness for insane HDR highlights.
And its got a 240 Hz refresh rate for buttersmooth gameplay.
While OLED has perpixel dimming this miniLED gets seriously bright and with that many dimming zones youll barely notice any blooming. If you want OLED the Zephyrus line has you covered.
The standard Nebula display on the G16 still offers high resolution and that 240 Hz refresh rate. Its got 100% DCIP3 coverage for vibrant colors.
And that new ambient contrast ratio filter is on both cuttin glare and boosting contrast.
It just makes everything look a little bit punchier even without direct light shining on it. Plus it improves viewing angles which is clutch for sharing your screen.
Power Under the Hood CPUs and GPUs
Both the Strix SCAR and G16 with Intel chips can pack up to the latest Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor.
For graphics the SCAR goes all the way to the RTX 5090 while the G16 tops out at the RTX 5080.
You can get up to 32GB of DDR5 5600 RAM and 2TB of storage on both and both are upgradeable.
Keep in mind that the AMD versions of the G16 and G18 use the previous chassis design and go up to an AMD Ryzen 9 9945HX3D (G16) or regular HX (G18) with an RTX 5070 Ti (G16) or RTX 5070 (G18).
Beyond Strix The Wider ROG Fam
ROG aint just about the Strix. Theyve got the Zephyrus line which are more thin and light gaming laptops that still pack serious performance.
These are for gamers who want portability without sacrificin too much power. The Zephyrus G14 and G16 even come with OLED displays.
Then theres the ROG Flow family which is all about versatility. Think super thin and light designs with touchscreens that can adapt to any situation.
This year its all about the Flow Z13 a gaming tablet with a detachable keyboard powered by an AMD Ryzen AI Max (Strix Halo) chip.
And lets not forget the TUF Gaming line from ASUS.
These are built for durability and longevity offering essential gaming features at a more value oriented price point.
They might not have all the bells and whistles of the ROG machines but theyre solid performers.
Easy Upgrades No Tools Needed
Seriously that toolless upgrade access on the new Strix SCAR and G16 is a gamechanger. You can easily get to the RAM and SSD slots without even reachin for a screwdriver.
Just flip a switch pop off the bottom and youre in. Even the SSDs use a Qlatch system that requires no tools.
Upgradin your storage or RAM is now a breeze. Remember though the CPU and GPU are soldered to the motherboard and generally not upgradeable.
Droppin Soon Availability and Price
Alright so when can you get your hands on these beauties? Most of the new ROG laptops including the Strix SCAR and G16 are expected to start hittin store shelves in March.
